Bonjour! I'm Pierre, a French tutor based in Paris, and I've been teaching French to English speakers for the past 15 years.
Over the years, I've helped students with different backgrounds, levels and ambitions develop their French skills, communicate more confidently and gain a deeper understanding of French life.
Whether you're an expatriate living in Paris, an international professional, a frequent visitor to France or someone learning French from abroad, my goal is to make your learning experience clear, enjoyable and rewarding.
For me, learning French is about much more than memorising vocabulary and mastering grammar. It's about gaining the confidence to have real conversations, understanding the people around you and discovering the culture behind the language.
Every student has different needs. Some want to feel more comfortable ordering in a restaurant or chatting with neighbours. Others need French for work, everyday life or a long-term move to France. Some simply love the language and want to explore French culture more deeply.
That's why I believe French lessons should be adapted to the person, rather than forcing every student to follow the same rigid programme.
My teaching approach combines conversation, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and practical examples. We focus on what you need to learn, at a pace that allows you to make steady progress without feeling overwhelmed.
My aim is to help you understand how French works, not just memorise rules without knowing how to use them.
French has a reputation for being difficult, particularly when it comes to grammar, verb conjugations, gender and sentence structure. But learning French doesn't have to be a frustrating experience.
Over the years, I have developed my own learning method, built around a clear and structured approach to grammar and vocabulary.
The idea is simple: break down the difficulties of French into manageable steps, explain the underlying logic and help you understand how different elements of the language fit together.
Rather than overwhelming you with too many rules at once, I aim to make each new concept easier to understand and apply.
Teaching English-speaking students has given me a clear understanding of the difficulties they often encounter when learning French.
Some grammatical structures work differently in English and French. Pronunciation can be unfamiliar, everyday expressions can be confusing, and knowing a rule doesn't always make it easy to speak spontaneously.
My experience helps me anticipate these challenges, explain differences clearly and adapt my lessons to each student's needs.
Whether you're a complete beginner or already speak French but want to improve your fluency, I aim to give you the tools and confidence to keep progressing.
Most importantly, I want you to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and learning at your own pace. Mistakes are a natural part of learning a language, not a reason to lose confidence.
One of the things I enjoy most about teaching French is sharing the culture that makes the language come alive.
Language and culture are inseparable. The way people speak, the expressions they use, their humour, their habits and their social conventions all reveal something about French life.
I enjoy helping students understand not only what French words mean, but also how they are used in real situations and what they tell us about the people who use them.
From everyday conversations and café culture to French customs, literature, food and the subtleties of social interaction, there is always something new to discover.
If you live in Paris, learning French can help you go beyond the experience of simply being in the city. It can help you participate more fully in local life, build connections and feel more at home.
And if you're learning from abroad, French lessons can be your gateway to a culture that extends far beyond the classroom.
Learning a language takes time, curiosity and practice. With the right explanations, a clear learning method and lessons adapted to your needs, the process can become much more manageable and enjoyable.
After 15 years of teaching French to English speakers, I remain convinced that the best lessons combine structure with conversation, clear explanations with practical application, and serious learning with the pleasure of discovering a language.
If you're looking for a French tutor in Paris or online who can help you understand French grammar, develop your vocabulary and communicate with greater confidence, I'd be delighted to hear from you.
Pierre
